DD 459 is the second ship of the U. S. Navy named after Bartlett Laffey. On March 5, 1864, Sailor Laffey was awarded the Medal of Honor for his resistance against Confederate forces. The ship, an Allen M. Sumner class destroyer, was laid down and launched during World War II in 1943 and commissioned in February 1944.
